The Arts Center project consists of the renovation of the Drama Building
at Wise. The renovated building
will house the Drama, Music, and Studio Art departments.
In addition, a black box theater will be built for
multi-use drama and music performance, with accessory
spaces providing storage, dressing rooms, a lobby, and
public restrooms. A scene shop, a costume shop, and
computer and drafting labs will be added to support the
theater activities. The building will house rehearsal
space for drama, band, and chorus activities.
Classrooms, faculty office space, and art studios will
also be located in the addition. A gallery to house art
exhibits will be added and will overlook an outdoor
courtyard in the center of the building. The addition
will wrap around three sides of the existing structure.
A total of 10,062 gsf of existing space will be renovated, with 28,950 gsf of new construction. The proposed building will
employ a palette of brick veneer over concrete masonry
units with punched aluminum windows and a base of
decorative concrete masonry. The roof will be a
combination of conventional pre-finished standing seam
metal roof and low-slope built-up roofing.
